Southern health system deploys EMC solution
Dec. 3—Wellmont Health System has deployed EMC’s information infrastructure software to manage its library of digital medical images such as x-rays, ultrasounds and MRIs.

The Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC said Wellmont has deployed 542 terabytes of storage capacity across its Symmetrix, Celerra, CLARiiON and Centera products.

Previously, EMC said that Wellmont stored its historical medical images on optical disks in one central location. “EMC Centera has given our radiologists instant access to historical images,” said Rex Lewis, senior SAN/UNIX engineer for Wellmont.  To support the automated file system archive, Wellmont has also deployed EMC’s DiskXtender, according to the company.

Wellmont, a healthcare provider in northeast Tennessee, southwest Virginia and southeast Kentucky, employs nearly 600 physicians and has a staff of 4,500 healthcare professionals.
