SCA Credit Services, the collection agency for Carilion Clinic, mistakenly mailed approximately 9,000 letters to patients of a private radiology practice affiliated with the clinic.

The collection agency used an old disk from 2009 containing a list of uncollected accounts, according to the Roanoke, Va.-based healthcare system.  

All of the accounts are on hold and there will be no collection activity while we sort things out, the clinic wrote in a blog. Carilion Clinic plans to send a letter to all patients involved with an explanation and apology.

The healthcare system wrote that information regarding these accounts has not been communicated to the various credit reporting agencies and incorrect notices should not affect patients’ credit reports.
