RSNA: McKesson unveils imaging informatics updates
McKesson (Booth #7713) is releasing updated versions of its image management and information systems for both radiology and cardiology at the 2009 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference in Chicago later this month.

With the availability of Horizon Medical Imaging 11.6, McKesson will debut several enhancements to its workflow-focused solution, through a mammography package featuring such updates as sector zooming, historical matching, optimized zoom viewing, DICOM CAD Structured Reporting and an auto-dim feature. Also, the Horizon Medical Imaging Control Station allows users to resolve common system issues by providing them with Internet access to study information, according to the company. Specifically, users can move and delete scanned documents; group and ungroup studies; resend HL7 study status notifications; and print and export study search results.

Radiologists can also organize and share images with Horizon Study Share 6.4, which will be featured at RSNA. The latest version of the Web-based solution provides reference case management and clinical conferencing capabilities. The new release offers integration with Horizon Medical Imaging for enhanced case creation, search and sharing with colleagues as well as an updated decision support interface.

McKesson also is displaying its new image management technology: Variable Thickness Regional Intensity Projection, as a workflow enhancement for Horizon Rad Station Advanced and Distributed workstations. The company said the technology allows radiologists to work with thin-slice data and existing display protocols.

In the cardiology realm, McKesson is displaying its Horizon Cardiology 12.1, a cardiovascular information solution (CVIS) that includes hemodynamic monitoring and ECG management. According to the company, the new version also features a fractional flow reserve (FFR) module, removing the need for dedicated FFR acquisition devices.  This module integrates the FFR waveform acquisition into the hemodynamic unit, and provides for data capture, lesion, stage, medication and dosage related to the waveform.

Other CVIS enhancements, according to the company, include support of DICOM Structured Reporting standards for echo and vascular procedures, as well as single workstation support for cardiac CT, angiography and echocardiography, including 3D/4D as well as a resting ECG management.
