Emdeon announced a deal to sell 52 percent interest in its Emdeon Business Services segment to General Atlantic LLC, a global private equity firm. The transaction is valued at $1.5 billion. Emdeon will retain the remaining interest in the Business Services division, which is valued at nearly $300 million. General Atlantic leadership stated Emdeon Business Services' integrated systems for payers and providers are an important means of streamlining the cost structure of the healthcare system and address the mounting demand within the healthcare industry for electronic claim payment and remittance as organizations make a move to paperless operations.
