NEMA updates manual for evaluating SPECT scanners

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published an updated edition of its manual for measuring and reporting performance parameters of SPECT scanners.

NEMA NU 1-2018 Performance Measurements of SPECT has been updated for improved readability and in response to new scanning technology. It includes the following updates:

  • A new measurement to characterize pixelated detectors
  • Updated image quality metrics for iterative reconstruction
  • Revised co-registration accuracy for the CT and SPECT parts of a SPECT/CT scanner

"Hopefully, this will facilitate the task to objectively compare scanners during the purchasing decision process and after delivery,” said Jean-Paul Bouhnik, chief physicist, Molecular Imaging for GE Healthcare, in a statement from NEMA “It defines tests that ensure that a quality system has been delivered."

The updated document is available in hard copy and as electric download for $144.
