Physicians utilize medical imaging to see inside the body to diagnose and treat patients. This includes computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, angiography,  and the nuclear imaging modalities of PET and SPECT.

ACR & SBI: Norwegian mammo overdiagnosis analysis flawed

The American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) have responded to a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine which concluded that 15 to 25 percent of cancers in the Norwegian mammography screening program are overdiagnosed, saying those overdiagnosis rates are overestimated, according to a statement on ACRs website.

ASNC Releases Dose-Reduction Guidelines for Nuclear Cardiology

Technological improvements in image acquisition and software processing in nuclear cardiology should allow physicians to shave patient imaging times dramatically or cut radiation doses fourfold, according to a new preferred practice statement from the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC).

ACR & SBI: Mammo not dangerous to thyroid

In response to an erroneous media report, the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) released a joint statement urging patients to disregard trumped up risks of thyroid cancer due to mammography-induced radiation.

New ASE guidelines offer clarity for right ventricular assessment

The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) has published new guidelines to improve the existing norms of the right heart in the July issue of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography. The recommended procedures will establish a more uniform method of evaluating the size and function of the right ventricle, said the society.

Automated AI-generated measurements combined with annotated CT images can improve treatment planning and help referring physicians and patients better understand their disease, explained Sarah Jane Rinehart, MD, director of cardiac imaging with Charleston Area Medical Center.

Two advanced algorithms—one for CAC scores and another for segmenting cardiac chamber volumes—outperformed radiologists when assessing low-dose chest CT scans. 

"Gen AI can help tackle repetitive tasks and provide insights into massive datasets, saving valuable time," Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said Tuesday.
